Walk the Sarsen Trail

Walk 7, 11, 15 or 26 miles through the heart of Wiltshire

Walk distances

The Sarsen Trail walk follows a 26 mile route through the beautiful Wiltshire countryside. From the stunning Vale of Pewsey to the contrasts of Salisbury Plain, this unique route links two of the UK’s World Heritage sites - the ancient stone circle
of Avebury and world-famous Stonehenge. The route is a multi-terrain, undulating cross-country course of moderate severity and may be muddy in wet weather and dusty when dry.

There are regular water and WC stops along the route, with light refreshments available to purchase at Redhorn Hill and bacon rolls at All Cannings. Free light refreshments at Stonehenge for all those who complete the walk. If you intend to walk the full 26 miles we strongly recommend that you start before 09.00 to ensure you reach Stonehenge by 18.00. After 18.00 we cannot guarantee that facilities will still be available. If you decide on the day not to complete the full route you are able to finish at Redhorn instead.

Transport arrangements

With the exception of the 7 mile walk, the main car park is located at Stonehenge and a free coach service will take you from there to the start points. The 7 mile walk will park at Avebury (map to be sent with registration confirmation) and there will be a free minibus shuttle service from All Cannings back to Avebury car park. All vehicles are parked entirely at the owners’ risk. Please note there is no parking at Avebury for walkers of other distances. Dogs are welcome on the coaches but must be kept under control at all times.
