Reducing your environmental impact

There are many ways to reduce your ‘carbon footprint’ from changing to low energy light bulbs and bags for life instead of carrier bags, to setting up solar panels on your house or setting up a climate friendly group. All ideas big and small can be found here with help on how to get involved; even the smallest change can make a difference.
Energy efficiency
Based at the Trust, the Wiltshire energy team works to promote energy efficiency to the public. By being energy efficient at home we can keep our houses cosy, cut our fuel bills and help protect our environment.
Fairtrade
The Trust supports the Wiltshire Fairtrade Coalition, which promotes the purchase of Fairtrade products. The Fairtrade certification system includes environmental standards, requiring producers to protect the natural environment and make this an integral part of their farm management practices. Producers are also encouraged to minimise the use of energy, especially if from non-renewable sources.
Green Gardening
Your garden is one of the most important areas in which your actions can protect wildlife and the environment. The Trust aims to raise awareness about sustainable, wildlife friendly gardening by encouraging gardeners to think about what they do in the garden. These pages highlight key areas where gardeners can make small changes that will make a big difference to the environment.
Greener Living Roadshow
The new Roadshow series follows on from the success of the first which was held earlier this year. There will be a total of eight events around the county. The next events are planned to take place in Chippenham on the 20th November and Devizes on the 27th November at their Christmas Lights Switch on events, both of which will have a festive theme. Look out for more details coming soon.
Waste minimisation
We are generating and throwing away more rubbish than ever. Existing landfill sites are rapidly filling up, and the manufacturing process of “throw-away” items such as plastic bottles and cardboard cartons uses energy and also creates mountains of rubbish. Here you will find information about composting, using real nappies and recycling directories – all to help you reduce the amount of rubbish that goes to landfill.
Wiltshire world changers
Wiltshire World Changers is a network of community groups and individuals working for the environment that encourage and support each other to create a more sustainable Wiltshire, and, by adding a local voice to the wider campaign, help reduce our environmental impact.
