Coarse fishing rules:

The site is a Nature Reserve and the following rules have been established to minimise disturbance to wildlife.

  • Only members of the Langford Lakes Fishing Club will be entitled to fish.
  • Anglers are entitled to fish the Brockbank Lake only, not in the other lakes. Fishing is from designated swims only, along the south shore of the Brockbank Lake. Fishing along the river is allowed at a reduced daily rate, subject to the rules of that fishery, and subject to availability (and must be booked in advance).
  • Swims are to be taken up on a ‘first come first served’ basis. It is not possible to reserve them in advance (except by the management for special events). Swims must be fully vacated if the angler is leaving the fishery i.e. all equipment removed.
  • On no account should rods be left unattended with bait in the water and if it is necessary to leave the swim, lines must be reeled with the unbaited hook secured to a rod ring.
  • Fishing will be allowed from dawn (park on the road) until one hour after sunset. NO NIGHT FISHING IS ALLOWED.
  • All fish caught are to be returned unharmed to the water as quickly as possible. Unhooking mats are recommended but should be disinfected between fisheries, as should landing nets. On no account should fish be retained in keep nets or sacks.
  • Barbless hooks must be used, or hooks with flattened barbs. 8
  • Fishing is restricted to the use of a rod and reel only.
  • A maximum of two rods per angler is allowed.
  • Bite alarms should be at low volume, to preserve the peace for others. No radios.
  • No tent bivvies, but umbrellas are allowed.
  • No weights heavier than 1 ounce (30 grammes).
  • Loss of terminal tackle in vegetation or tree branches must be reported.
  • Close season 15th March to 15th June inclusive.
  • Pike fishing is available throughout the coarse fishing season. When fishing for pike use only barbless single, double or treble hooks. No live baiting is allowed.
  • All litter and line must be taken away at the end of fishing.
  • Application for membership is considered as acceptance of these rules. The Wiltshire Wildlife Trust has the power to refuse or withdraw membership and its decision is final.
