Welcome to WWT, WWT/ David Hall

The Trust is unique in being the only organisation concerned with all aspects of the environment in Wiltshire. We are one of the UK’s most successful nature conservation charities. Since the Trust’s formation in 1963 out of concern for the colony of Purple Emperor butterflies in Blackmoor Copse, we have created 37 wildlife havens, effectively lobbied local and national government and dramatically reduced waste in Wiltshire. Find out more about us.

Langford Lakes appeal

The Trust has launched an appeal for funds towards the cost of creating a spectacular new wetland habitat at its Langford Lakes Nature Reserve. 10 hectares of meadow and 300 metres of the River Wylye have been bought by the Trust to add to the existing Reserve in South Wiltshire. This offers a unique opportunity to create a valuable new wetland benefiting a wide range of wildlife.

Watch the video below which outlines the Trust's plans and illustrates some of the work already carried out.

Thank you to those of you who have already donated to our appeal, we have raised £21,906.

Click here to make a donation to our appeal and help us reach our target of £46,000. Thank you

Sandpool Appeal

Sandpool, Sarah Wood/ WWT

Over the coming months work will begin at Sandpool Nature Reserve to enable us to manage the site. A new cattle handling system, "the roundhouse" will be erected enabling us to house our cattle in the worst of weathers. At the same time new fencing, hedging and paths will be created giving better access. But of course we will also be undertaking a host of works to improve the site for wildlife including a new hibernaculum for the lizards and Grass Snakes found here, new ponds for Great Crested Newts, bumble bee banks and a new wildlife orchard. Help us to do more for wildlife by donating to our appeal.

Cows get a taste for town life

10 Dec 2009

New residents moved into the centre of Warminster this week and very snappy dressers they are too; for they wear a distinctive broad white belt around their fine black coats.
